Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS):
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
2. Raise vehicle on hoist.
3. Disconnect the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) electrical connector.
4. Remove speedometer cable from VSS.
5. Remove the VSS.
6. Remove driven gear retainer and driven gear.
7. Inspect the speedometer driven gear retainer O-ring for nicks and cuts. Replace if necessary.
8. To install, reverse Removal procedure. Tighten the VSS bolt to 6 Nm (4 lb ft). Tighten VSS and speedometer cable.
