Disassembly and Assembly

NOTE: On these models, the steering column must be replaced in all cases where the air bag has been deployed.

1. Remove air bag module retaining screws from back of steering wheel, then module.
2. Disconnect wiring harness connectors for air bag module and speed control.
3. Remove steering wheel retaining bolt.
4. Remove steering wheel. Use caution to not damage air bag sliding contact harness during removal.
5. Apply tape across air bag sliding contact assembly stator and rotor to prevent accidental rotation.
6. Remove lock cylinder, ignition switch, and combination switch.

Lower Steering Shaft:

7. Remove lower steering shaft bearing retainer.
8. Remove lower steering shaft.
9. Reverse procedure to assemble.
