Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system following the recommended service procedures. Observe all safety precautions.
2. Loosen the idler pulley to remove the tension from the drive belt. Remove the drive belt from the A/C clutch pulley.
3. Loosen the A/C manifold retaining bolt and remove the A/C manifold and tube from the A/C compressor. Cap the manifold to prevent dirt and excessive moisture from entering.
4. Disconnect the A/C compressor clutch wire at the clutch field coil connector on the A/C compressor.
5. Remove the four A/C compressor retaining bolts and the wiring bracket.
6. Remove the A/C compressor from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: A new service replacement A/C compressor is shipped without compressor oil.
1. Service the replacement A/C compressor with the correct amount of clean Motorcraft YN-12b refrigerant oil or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.
2. Install the A/C compressor onto the A/C compressor mounting bracket with the four bolts and the wiring bracket.
3. Lubricate the new 0-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and position them in the 0-ring seal grooves of the A/C manifold and tube.
4. Apply Pipe Sealant with Teflon D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSK-M2G350-A2 and ESR-M18P7-A to the threads of the manifold retaining bolt.
NOTE: When replacing an A/C compressor, use the original manifold bolt from the removed A/C compressor to attach the A/C manifold and tube to the new A/C compressor. Do not use the shipping cap bolts.
5. Position the A/C manifold and tube with the 0-ring seals to the A/C compressor. Install the retaining bolt and tighten it to 17-23 Nm (13-17 ft lb).
6. Connect the A/C clutch wire harness connector and secure the harness to the wiring bracket.
7. Install the drive belt on the A/C clutch pulley.
8. Leak-test, evacuate, and charge the A/C system.
9. Check the A/C system for proper operation.
