Condenser HVAC: Service and Repair
REMOVALCAUTION: Whenever an A/C condenser core is replaced, it is necessary that the suction accumulator/drier also be replaced.
NOTE: If an A/C condenser core leak is suspected, the A/C condenser core must be leak-tested before it is removed from the vehicle.
1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system at the service access gauge port valve located on the suction line. Observe all safety precautions.
2. Remove the two screws retaining the top of the A/C condenser core to the radiator.
3. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
4. Remove the lower radiator air deflector.
5. Remove the two nuts and the two screws retaining the transmission fluid cooler to the A/C condenser core and position the cooler aside.
6. Disconnect the condenser to the evaporator tube from the A/C condenser core outlet tube using the Spring Lock Coupling Disconnect Tool (1/2 inch) T81P-19623-G2.
CAUTION: Plug the lines to prevent dirt and excessive moisture from entering the A/C System.
7. Disconnect the A/C manifold and tube from the A/C condenser core inlet tube using the Spring Lock Coupling Disconnect Tool (3/8 inch) T81P-19623-G1.
CAUTION: Plug the lines to prevent dirt and excessive moisture from entering the A/C System.
8. Remove the two screws retaining the A/C condenser core to the radiator.
9. Lift the A/C condenser core off the support brackets on the radiator and lower the A/C condenser core out of the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION: If the old A/C condenser core is to be replaced with a new A/C condenser core, add 2.9 ml (1 oz) of clean Motorcraft YN-12b refrigerant oil or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B to the A/C condenser core.
1. Install the A/C condenser core to the radiator. Tighten the screws and nuts to 5-6 Nm (44-53 in lb).
2. Remove the plugs from the two refrigerant lines and install new 0-ring seals after dipping them into clean refrigerant oil.
3. Connect the A/C manifold tube and the condenser to evaporator tube to the A/C condenser core.
4. Install the transmission fluid cooler to the A/C condenser core.
5. Install the lower radiator air deflector. Tighten the three splash shield to radiator screws to 7-11 Nm (62-97 in lb) and the remaining 11 screws to 2-3 Nm (18-27 in lb).
6. Lower the vehicle to the floor.
7. Install the two screws retaining the A/C condenser core to the radiator. Tighten the screws to 5-6 Nm (45-53 in lb).
8. Leak-test, evacuate, and charge the refrigerant system. Observe all safety precautions.
9. Check the A/C system for proper operation.
