This TSB is being republished in its entirety to correct the build dates and thrust washers required for the specific transaxles.

ISSUE:
Thrust washer tabs on the # 1 and # 3 thrust washers have been revised in the AX4S transaxle to improve the assembly process. The # 3 thrust washer is secured to the chain cover with crush tabs. The # 1 thrust washer tabs are now symmetrically located for easier assembly and also secured to the chain cover with crush tabs.








ACTION:
If replacement of the # 1 and/or # 3 thrust washer is necessary on an AX4S transaxle, inspect the chain cover in the thrust washer tab area to identify the correct thrust washers required (refer to Figures 1 and 2).

AX4S transaxles built before October 13, 1995, service with the previous design # 1 thrust washer (E6DZ-7G099-A) and # 3 thrust washer (E6DZ-7G096-A).

AX4S transaxles built October 13, 1995 and after, service the # 1 thrust washer with the newest level (F5DZ-7G099-A). The # 3 thrust washer can be serviced with either the previous # 3 thrust washer (E6DZ-7G096-A) or the newest level (F5DZ-7G096-A), with the crush tabs to secure it to the chain cover.
