ISSUE:
The Rotunda 1996 Transmission Range (TR) Sensor Tester Cable (007-00111) designated "TR-E" (cable indication is shown on cable end) was shipped to all dealerships in June/July. The new cable "E" is for testing on certain Taurus/Sable models equipped with an electronic instrument cluster and floor-mounted shifter. You must use this cable for correct diagnosis of the TR sensor.
ACTION:
Refer to the following text for service details.
When testing the new 12-pin TR sensor (Figure 1), be sure to use the new "E" cable. Always use the correct cable for the application being tested.
The new "E" cable has two (2) TR connectors (Blue and Black) (Figure 2), use the Blue 12-pin connector for this application. The Black connector is for future applications.
The new "E" TR cable is used on Taurus/Sable with electronic instrument cluster and floor-mounted shifters (Figure 3).
Attempting to use any other TR cable will damage the sensor and/or cable or cause misdiagnosis.
Dealerships also received a TR/MLP Kit Application Sticker (Figure 4) to update the TR/MLP Application Chart. Also, an addendum for the Operating Manual and a Test Adapter Checklist were provided (Figure 5).
