EVAP System - MIL ON/Code 0446 Set

ISSUE:
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate and Code 0446 may be stored in memory. This may be caused by a kink in the fresh air hose between the fuel tiller neck and the carbon canister or an inoperative Fuel Tank Pressure Transducer (FTPT).

ACTION:
Check for a kinked or restricted fresh air hose and/or replace the fuel tank pressure transducer. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Check with SBDS/NGS and make sure Code 0446 is present.

2. Check to see it the fresh air hose between the fuel filler neck and the carbon canister is kinked following Step HX13 listed in the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) OBD II Manual, Page 6A-435.

3. It the line is not kinked, replace the fuel tank pressure transducer following the Steps outlined in the 1996 appropriate vehicle Service Manual, Section 10-01. Make sure the fuel tank pressure transducer being installed has a white check valve and not a blue check valve.

4. Check the evaporative system following Step HW in Section 6A, Page 409 of the PC/ED.
