INTERIOR TRIM - HEADLINER SAG IN REAR - VEHICLES BUILT THROUGH 11/15/95
FORD:
1996 TAURUS
LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1996 SABLE
ISSUE:
The rear of the headliner may sag on some vehicles. This may be caused by not having enough push pins in place to prevent sagging.
ACTION:
Remove headliner and install a revised headliner with added push pins. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Refer to the 1996 Taurus/Sable Service Manual, Section 01-05, for removal of the headliner. If the rear sheet metal header is of prior level (one hole in middle) before production change, the two (2) new hole locations in the headliner will require service as follows.
CAUTION:
EXTREME CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN WHILE DRILLING HOLES TO MAKE SURE THE DRILL DOES NOT HIT THE OUTSIDE OF THE ROOF.
1. Drill two (2) 7 mm (9/32") diameter holes in the sheet metal header. The new headliner can be used as a template to locate the two (2) new holes in the sheet metal header (refer to Figures 1 through 3).
2. Apply Headliner Adhesive (F1VY-19562-A or equivalent meeting Ford Specification WSB-M2G355-A) to headliner in proper locations (refer to Figures 1 through 3).
3. Install the revised headliner using a total of three (3) push pins (two flocked and one unflocked, Figures 1 and 2) for the sedan, or a total of five (5) push pins (four flocked and one unflocked, Figure 3) for the wagon.
