Through December 31, 1996, Regardless of Mileage

Affected Vehicles
1996 Taurus and Sable station wagons built from start of 1996 model production through October 19, 1995 at the Atlanta and Chicago Assembly Plants.

Reason For this Program
The rear applique (reflector and socket assembly) lens may expand due to air pressure build-up inside the lens when exposed to extended intervals of high temperatures. As the lens expands the ends of the applique may detach from the tailgate.

Service Action
Owners will be asked to return their station wagons for inspection of appliques. If the applique ends are detached from the tailgate the applique will be replaced.

Appliques that are not detached will be removed and inspected for ventilation ports. If the ventilation ports are not present, air pressure relief holes will be drilled in the underside of the applique.

Refunds
Only for owner-paid repairs made before the date of the Owner Letter (or after the date of the Owner Letter if an emergency repair was made away from the servicing dealer).
