1996 Taurus/Sable Brake Fluid Level Switch Replacement Procedures

1. Open hood. Locate brake fluid level switch at bottom of brake fluid reservoir.

CAUTION
ONLY USE ENOUGH FORCE TO DISENGAGE SWITCH FROM RECEPTACLE IN BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR

NOTE:
Use a 3.8" drive ratchet or similar tool to press the brake fluid level switch from its receptacle in the brake fluid reservoir.

2. Holding reservoir in place with the left hand, position thumb at bottom of ratchet and push in direction of arrow to disengage switch from receptacle. See Figure 1. DO NOT REMOVE RESERVOIR.

3. Note the position of the switch as installed in the receptacle, then disconnect switch electrical connector and remove switch from vehicle. Discard the switch.

4. Insert new switch into the receptacle (flat surface up) and push firmly until a click is heard. See Figure 2. Connect the electrical connector.

5. Verify that the new brake fluid level switch has been connected properly by turning the ignition switch to the "START" position, the red brake light on the instrument panel should be illuminated. Then turn the ignition switch to the "RUN" position, the brake light should NOT be illuminated. If the brake light stays illuminated in the "RUN" position, the low brake fluid switch has not been connected properly. Check installation and re-verify proper function.

6. Close hood.
