Subject:
Safety Recall 96S34 - Certain 1996 Taurus and Sable Cars For Brake Fluid Level Indicator Switch Replacement

Affected Vehicles
Certain 1996 Model Year Taurus and Sable cars produced from Job # 1 through September 19, 1995.

Reasons For Recall
On some of these cars, the brake fluid level indicator lamp switch may have been damaged during the master cylinder manufacturing process. This will not affect the braking performance of the vehicle, but a damaged switch can cause the brake warning lamp in the instrument cluster to remain illuminated continuously or to not illuminate should a low brake fluid level occur. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 105, "Hydraulic Brake Systems" requires vehicles to be equipped with indicator lamps that activate if the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder is low.

To correct this condition, dealers will replace the brake fluid level indicator switch on all 1996 Taurus/Sable vehicles produced through September 19, 1995.
