Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Remove the cooling fan motor, the fan blade, and the fan shroud assembly from the vehicle. Observe all safety precautions.
2. Loosen the idler pulley to remove the tension from the drive belt. Remove the drive belt from the A/C clutch pulley.

3. Loosen the A/C manifold retaining bolt and remove the A/C manifold and tube from the A/C compressor. Cap the manifold to prevent dirt and excessive moisture from entering.
4. Disconnect the A/C compressor clutch wire at the clutch field coil connector on the A/C compressor.

5. Remove the A/C compressor retaining bolts.
6. Remove the A/C compressor from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION

NOTE: A new service replacement A/C compressor is shipped without compressor oil.

1. Service the replacement A/C compressor with the correct amount of clean Motorcraft YN-12b refrigerant oil or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.
2. Install the A/C compressor onto the vehicle.
3. Lubricate the new 0-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and position them in the 0-ring seal grooves of the A/C manifold and tube.
4. Apply Pipe Sealant with Teflon D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSK-M2G350-A2 and ESR-M18P7-A to the threads of manifold retaining bolt.

NOTE: When replacing an A/C compressor, use the original manifold bolt from the removed A/C compressor to attach the A/C manifold and tube to the new A/C compressor. Do not use the shipping cap bolts.

5. Position the A/C manifold and tube with the O-ring seals to the A/C compressor. Install the retaining bolt and tighten it to 17-23 Nm (13-17 ft lb).
6. Connect the A/C clutch wire harness connector.
7. Install the drive belt on the A/C clutch pulley.
8. Install the cooling fan motor, the fan blade, and the fan shroud assembly to the vehicle.
9. Check the A/C system for proper operation.
