Parking Brake Shoe: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Remove axle shaft assembly. Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.
2. Disconnect parking brake rear cable and conduit from rear parking brake cable.
3. Remove brake shoe hold down springs and brake shoe hold-down spring pins.
4. Set brake shoe adjustment screw to shortest length.
5. Slightly pull parking brake shoe and linings away from parking brake support plate and spread enough to remove brake shoe adjustment screw assembly.
6. Remove upper brake shoe adjusting screw spring.
CAUTION: Make sure rear parking brake cable does not damage boot or pull boot out of position.
7. Lift parking brake shoe and linings over support and remove parking brake shoe and linings and rear parking brake cable as an assembly.
8. Disassemble parking brake shoe and linings, parking brake lever and parking brake return springs.
INSTALLATION
1. Install lower parking brake return spring and rear parking brake cable to parking brake shoe and lining assemblies.
Rear Disc Brake Caliper:
2. Make sure parking brake lever boot is properly positioned in parking brake support plate. Install parking brake shoe and lining assemblies by first inserting rear parking brake cable through boot, lowering shoes into position.
3. Install upper brake shoe adjusting screw spring.
4. Install brake shoe adjustment screw assembly.
5. Install brake shoe hold down springs and brake shoe hold-down spring pins.
6. Connect parking brake rear cable and conduit to rear parking brake cable.
7. Install axle shaft assembly.
Parking Brake Shoe And Linings Wear Limit Specifications:
8. Center parking brake shoe and linings on parking brake support plate and, using an 8-inch micrometer, gauge parking brake shoe and linings to 183.26-183.56 mm (7.215-7.227 inch).
9. Install brake rotor/brake caliper/brake shoes and wheel and tire.
10. Check park brake operation.
