Electronic Instrument Cluster

The electronic instrument system is made up of two assemblies. These assemblies are:
- Electronic instrument cluster.
- Message center control and message center switch
module assembly.

The electronic instrument cluster:
- Consists of one microcomputer-based module.
- Processes sensor information.
- Controls three vacuum fluorescent displays for:
- Speedometer/odometer.
- Fuel gauge and engine coolant temperature gauge.
- Message center.

These warning indicators are located in the indicator lamp module:
- Anti-theft (if equipped).
- Anti-lock.
- Brake.
- Hazard.

All other warning indicators are included in the electronic instrument cluster.

LH display warnings:
- AIR BAG(a)
- Charging System(a)
- CHECK ENGINE(a)
- Safety Belt(a)
- Oil Pressure(a)
- High Engine Coolant Temperature
- LOW FUEL

Center display warnings:
- SPEED CONTROL
- High Beams(a)
- Left Turn Signal(a)
- Right Turn Signal(a)

RH display warnings:
- CHECK AIR SUSPENSION
- OVERDRIVE OFF
- DOOR AJAR
- TRUNK AJAR
- LOW WASHER FLUID

The electronic instrument cluster is operational only when the ignition switch is in RUN. The electronic vacuum fluorescent displays are powered by a nonserviceable internal power supply. The only illumination bulb used, which is not serviceable, is for back lighting of the transmission range indicator. When the headlamps are turned on, the instrument cluster dims according to the interior lighting control paddle position (except those warnings indicated above, which do not dim).

(a) These warning indicators cannot be dimmed.
