CONSTRUCTION
The fuel tanks are constructed of fiberglass-wrapped steel, mounted in two insulated racks with two tanks per rack. The rack with 267 mm (10.50 in) diameter tanks is located in the luggage compartment above the rear axle area. The lower rack has two 222 mm (8.75 in) diameter tanks and is located in the production fuel tank area. Each tank has an internal, normally closed solenoid shut-off valve wired to the inertia fuel shutoff circuit for crash to isolate the fuel tanks in the event of a collision.
