Brakes and Traction Control: Description and Operation

COMPONENTS
These vehicles are equipped with a conventional pedal-actuated hydraulic dual-brake system. The system consists of the following:
- brake master cylinder
- brake pressure control valves
- power brake booster
- front and rear disc brake calipers
- brake tubes and hoses

NOTE: The dual hydraulic system is front-to-rear split. Both front brakes make up one circuit and both rear brakes make up the other circuit.

SERVICING
Brake Master Cylinder and Reservoir
- The fluid reservoir is serviced separately from the master cylinder.
- The fluid level switch float is serviced as part of the reservoir.
- The fluid level switch can be serviced separately from the master cylinder.
- The brake master cylinder filler cap is serviced separately.

Brake Booster
Adjustment of the push rod (non-ABS only) and replacement of the check valve are the only services permitted on the power brake booster. The power brake booster is serviced only as an assembly. The power brake booster check valve, hose and grommet are serviced separately.
