Removal & Installation
REMOVAL1. Remove fan shroud (8146).
NOTE: When disconnecting the transmission fluid cooler inlet and outlet lines, loosen the transmission fluid cooler lines while holding radiator fitting with a back-up wrench.
2. Disconnect the transmission fluid cooler inlet and outlet lines.
3. Drain engine coolant.
4. Disconnect upper radiator hose (8260) and lower radiator hose (8286) and de-aeration hose from the radiator (8005).
5. Remove two upper A/C condenser core-to-radiator retaining bolts.
6. Remove radiator upper support retaining bolts and remove supports.
7. Lift A/C condenser core (19712) sufficiently to disengage lower retaining clips on radiator. Remove radiator from vehicle.
FITTINGS
When installing a new radiator (8005), transfer the transmission fluid cooler line fittings from the old radiator and install them in the new radiator, using Pipe Sealant with Teflon(R) D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent oil-resistant sealer meeting Ford specifications WSK-M2G350-A2 and ESR-M18P7-A.
INSTALLATION
1. Transfer cooler line connectors to the new radiator, using Pipe Sealant with Teflon(R) D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent oil-resistant sealer meeting Ford specification WSK-M2G350-A2 and ESR-M18P7-A.
2. Position the radiator into the vehicle. Install A/C condenser core into lower retaining clips on radiator.
3. Install upper supports and secure with bolts.
4. Install two upper A/C condenser core-to-radiator retaining bolts. Tighten to 8-11 Nm (71-97 inch lbs.).
5. Connect the fluid transmission cooler lines while using a back-up wrench to hold fitting. Tighten to 25-28 Nm (19-20 ft. lbs.).
6. Connect the upper radiator hose, lower radiator hose and de-aeration hoses.
7. Close the radiator draincock (8115).
8. Install fan shroud.
9. Fill the engine cooling system with a 50/50 mixture of Ford Premium Cooling System Fluid E2FZ-19549-AA or-B (in Oregon F5FZ-19549-CC, in Canada, Motorcraft CXC-8-B) or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M97B44-A and water.
WARNING: TO AVOID THE POSSIBILITY OF PERSONAL INJURY OR DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE, DO NOT OPERATE THE ENGINE WITH THE HOOD (16612) OPEN UNTIL THE FAN BLADE (8600) HAS BEEN FIRST EXAMINED FOR CRACKS AND SEPARATION.
10. Operate the engine and check for leaks at the hose connections and the transmission fluid cooler lines. Check the automatic transmission fluid. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
11. Turn the engine off and check radiator and degas bottle engine coolant levels.
