Removal and Installation
REMOVAL1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
WARNING: WHEN SERVICING STARTER MOTOR OR PERFORMING ANY MAINTENANCE IN THE AREA OF THE STARTER MOTOR, NOTE THE HEAVY GAUGE INPUT LEAD CONNECTED TO THE STARTER SOLENOID IS ELECTRICALLY HOT AT ALL TIMES. MAKE SURE THE PROTECTIVE CAP IS INSTALLED OVER THE TERMINAL AND IS REPLACED AFTER SERVICE.
2. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
3. Remove red solenoid safety cap. Disconnect starter cables from starter solenoid.
4. Remove two upper starter motor bolts using a 1/4 inch drive ratchet with swivel-type 10 mm socket.
5. Remove lower bolt and starter motor from vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. Install starter motor to engine and install lower starter motor bolt finger-tight.
2. Install the two upper starter motor bolts making sure starter mounting flange is square with cover plate mounting surface. Tighten all three starter motor bolts to 20-27 N.m (15-20 Lb-Ft).
3. Install S terminal cable eyelet with washer and nut. Tighten to 4.5-6.5 N.m (40-57 Lb-In).
4. Install starter cable nut to starter solenoid B-terminal. Tighten nut to 9-14 N.m (80-124 Lb-In).
5. Install the red starter solenoid safety cap.
6. Lower vehicle.
7. Connect battery ground cable.
