Vehicle Lifting: Locations

LIFTING INSTRUCTIONS

CAUTION: When using a hoist to lift vehicle, make sure it is positioned only at points indicated in the illustration. Positioning at other points may cause considerable damage to body, steering, suspension, engine, braking system and fuel lines.

For hoisting and lifting locations.

HOIST, DRIVE ON
To prevent possible damage to the underbody, do not drive the vehicle onto the drive-on hoist without first checking for possible interference between the upright flanges of the hoist rails and the underbody. Should there be interference, the hoist flanges should be modified as necessary and/or the approach ramps built up to provide the necessary clearance.

HOIST, FRAME CONTACT

CAUTION: All four contact points must contact the adapters.

On frame contact hoists, adapters are necessary to lift the vehicle. The adapters must be placed at four contact points. Position the adapters so they are centered on the adapter contact area.

Front adapter location is under front body rail, behind the front suspension.

Rear adapter location is under rear side sill, forward of rear wheel openings. The location is identified by an arrow symbol stamped in the outer rocker panel. On SE models remove cover in lower rocker panel to gain access to rear side sill. Use a cushioned pad, if possible, to avoid damaging body paint. For SE models use blocks, nylon if possible. Front block approximate dimensions are 89 x 69 x 51 mm (3 1/2 x 3 1/2 x 2 inches) deep. Rear block approximate dimensions are 89 x 89 x 152 mm (3 1/2 x 3 1/2 x 6 inches) deep. Blocks provide clearance of lifting arms to lower rocker panel trim. Contact with lower rocker panel trim by lifting arms will cause damage to panel. Do not allow the adapters to contact the rear suspension tension strut and bushing.

HOIST, SINGLE POST
When lifting vehicle with a single post hoist, adapters must be used at the four contact points. Position the adapters so they are centered on the adapter contact area.

Adapter location is the same as for Hoist Frame Contact.

NOTE: Before hoisting the vehicle, verify that there is sufficient clearance between hoist (lower rocker panel on SE models) and exhaust system components.

Do not allow the adapters to contact the rear suspension tension strut and bushing.

HOIST, TWIN POST
When lifting vehicle with a twin post hoist, wheel adapters must be used under the tires.

JACK, FLOOR

CAUTION:
- The service jack provided with the vehicle is only intended to be used in an emergency for changing a deflated tire. Never use the service jack to hoist the vehicle for any other service. Refer to the Owner Guide when using the jack supplied with the vehicle.
- Under no circumstances should the vehicle ever be lifted by the front or rear control arms, halfshafts or front wheel driveshaft joints. Severe damage to the vehicle could result.

When using a floor jack, raise the front of the vehicle by positioning a floor jack under the front body rail, behind the front suspension.

NOTE: On SE models remove cover in lower side sill moulding to gain access to rear side sill.

The rear may be lifted by positioning a floor jack under the rear sill, forward of rear wheel openings. The location is identified by an arrow symbol stamped in the outer rocker panel. Use a cushioned pad, if possible, to avoid damaging body paint.
