ISSUE:
A "hooting" or "moosing" noise after engine deceleration to idle may occur on some vehicles, primarily those equipped with manual transmissions. This noise is noticeable when the driver decelerates by removing their foot from the accelerator pedal in the 3000 to 2000 rpm range. Continued deceleration to below 1500 rpm may occasionally result in a stall in the near idle speed range. This may be caused by a resonance occuring within the air intake system.

ACTION:
Replace the air intake duct, idle air resonator, and idle air hose with a revised Duct and Resonator Assembly (F6RZ-9B659-CA). Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect crankcase ventilation hoses from air cleaner outlet duct.

2. Loosen engine air cleaner outlet duct clamps.

3. Loosen clamp retaining idle air hose to manifold.

4. Remove air cleaner outlet duct from mass air flow sensor, throttle body, and resonator. Discard air cleaner outlet duct. Remove and discard idle air hose, resonator, and two (2) clamps. Retain one (1) clamp (if needed, use a W700572-S300 clamp). Refer to Figure 1.

5. Install revised Duct and Resonator Assembly (F6RZ-9B659-CA) (Figure 2). Use the retained clamp (Step 4) to attach the assembly to the manifold. Use a Swivel Clip (W700109-S300) to secure the quarter-wave tube to the coolant degas hose.

6. Tighten the air cleaner outlet duct clamps to 2.7-5.4 N.m (24-48 lb-in). Reattach the crankcase ventilation hoses to the air intake duct.
