Power
NOTE: If the key is left in either the driver's or passenger's lock cylinder in the lock or unlock position for a period of time, it may cause the locks to cycle. This is due to a protective feature in the door lock actuator and is not harmful to the lock system. Remove the key and the actuators will function normally. The power door lock system consists of the components used in the manual door lock system in addition to the following:
^ front door lock switches in the door trim panel arm rests
^ front power door lock actuator and rear door electric latch actuators
^ circuit wiring and circuit protection
^ lock and unlock relays
^ driver's, passenger's and liftgate key cylinder switches
When the raised portion of either front door lock switch (L) is pressed, ground is supplied to the all door lock relay and all doors lock. The driver door will be kept from locking by the GEM if the following inputs are present:
^ driver door ajar.
^ key-in-ignition signal present.
^ lock sense command.
When the depressed portion of either front door lock switch (U) is pressed, ground is supplied to the all door unlock relay and driver's door unlock relay and all doors unlock. The electronic lock system also includes GEM controlled central locking. This system allows driver's door to be unlocked or all doors to be unlocked using door key cylinder switches. To operate central locking unlock functions:
^ Turn key in door lock cylinder to unlock position. The door will unlock mechanically.
^ Turn same lock cylinder to unlock within 5 seconds and all doors unlock.
^ Turn either door key cylinder to lock and all doors will lock.
^ For station wagons, liftgate lock cylinder switch will unlock all doors but will not lock.
