B - Brake Warning Indicator Always ON
B1 BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR TESTNOTE: In a normal system the brake warning indicator should only light when the ignition switch is in "START" position or when the ignition switch is in "RUN" and the parking brake is applied.
- Release the parking brake.
- Check fluid level in the reservoir. Fill as required.
- Put ignition switch in "RUN".
- Does brake warning indicator turn on?
YES - Check switch wiring for possible short to ground. Refer to Instrument Cluster.
NO - Go to B2
B2 BRAKE SYSTEM LEAKAGE
Check brake master cylinder reservoir and external brake system for leakage. Refer to component tests. Testing and Inspection Does system leak?
YES - Service as necessary, add fluid and bleed system.
NO - Fill brake master cylinder reservoir. Go to B3.
B3 IGNITION WIRING CHECK
Check that ignition wiring is not within a 50.8 mm (2 in) radius of the Brake Warning Reed Switch. Is wiring OK. ?
YES - Go to B4
NO - Rerout wiring as necessary.
B4 BRAKE WARNING SWITCH WIRING
- Partially drain the brake master cylinder.
- Put ignition switch in "RUN" and observe brake warning indicator.
- Does the brake warning indicator illuminate?
YES - Fill brake master cylinder reservoir. Switch and wiring OK.
NO - Check for an open in brake warning indicator wiring. Refer to Instrument Cluster. Service as required. If no open is found, go to B5
B5 BRAKE WARNING SWITCH CHECK
- Manually push the float in the reservoir to the bottom.
- Put the ignition switch in "RUN", does the brake warning indicator illuminate?
YES - Refill reservoir, brake warning switch OK.
NO - Replace brake master cylinder reservoir.
