Cooling System: Description and Operation
DESCRIPTIONThe engine coolant flows through the radiator tubes and is cooled by air passing over the cooling fins of the radiator. Coolant is then circulated from the radiator to the engine, heater core and water pump, then returns to the radiator through the water hose connection.
COMPONENTS
The cooling system includes the following components:
- Radiator.
- Water pump.
- Water thermostat.
- Thermostat housing.
- Water crossover tube.
- Water bypass tube.
- Engine cooling fan motor and fan blade which are activated by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Radiator coolant recovery reservoir located beside the radiator which aids in maintaining the correct volume of engine coolant and contributes to the de-aeration of the cooling system.
WATER PUMP
The water pump has a conventional design and is driven by the drive belt.
