Engine: Application and ID
DESCRIPTIONEngine parts often differ within a safety certification label family. Verification of identification codes will make sure that the proper parts are obtained. It is imperative that the engine codes and the calibration number be used when ordering parts or making inquiries about the engine. These codes contain all pertinent information relating to the following:
- dates.
- optional equipment.
- revisions.
EMISSION CALIBRATION NUMBER LABEL
The emission calibration number label is located on the LH side door or LH door post pillar. These numbers are used to determine if parts are unique to specific engines. Always refer to this label when replacement parts are required or when checking engine calibrations. It identifies the following:
- Engine calibration number.
- Engine code number.
- Revision level.
ENGINE TAG
An engine identification label is also attached to the engine. The symbol code on the identification label identifies each engine for determining parts usage; for instance, engine displacement liters and model year.
ENGINE CODE INFORMATION
Engine Code Information Label:
The engine code information label is located on the valve cover. The label contains, among other information:
- Engine calibration number.
- Engine build date.
- Engine plant code.
- Engine code.
OIL FILLER CAPS
Engines can be identified by unique oil filler caps. The flexible fuel vehicles will have "FFV" written on the cap.
VEHICLE CERTIFICATION LABEL (VCI)
The vehicle certification label, mounted on the LH front door lock face panel, provides the following information:
- engine code (letter or number) used to determine the engine type and size (8th digit of the VIN).
U .... 3.0 (2V) Gasoline
S .... 3.0 (4V) Gasoline
N .... 3.0 (2V) FFV - Ethanol
1 .... 3.0 (2V) FFV - Methanol
- Date of Manufacture.
- Additional information.
