Camshaft, Lifters and Push Rods: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Remove engine.
2. Remove flywheel.
3. Using a sharp chisel or punch and hammer, cut a hole in the center of the camshaft rear bearing cover.

CAUTION: Use care to prevent damage to the camshaft rear bearing cover bore or possible engine oil leakage may occur.

NOTE: The camshaft rear bearing cover can also be pried from the bore using a large punch.

4. Remove the camshaft rear bearing cover using Puller T58L-101-B or equivalent slide hammer.

INSTALLATION

NOTE: If the bore is damaged, it will be necessary to true the surface by boring for the next specified oversize camshaft rear bearing cover. Oversize (OS) camshaft rear bearing covers are identified by the OS stamped in the flat located on the cup side of the camshaft rear bearing cover.

1. Inspect the camshaft rear bearing cover bore for any damage that would interfere with the proper sealing of the camshaft rear bearing cover.
2. Apply a light coating of anaerobic sealer or equivalent to the sealing edge of the camshaft rear bearing cover.
3. Install camshaft rear bearing cover using a suitable driver.
2. Install flywheel and tighten bolts to 73-87 Nm (54-64 ft. lbs.).
3. Install engine.
