Steps After Repairs (Start-Up Procedure)

NOTE: Use this start-up procedure after power steering pump or gear service.

After engine start up, follow these steps to eliminate excessive steering system noise due to air trapped in the system during service:
1. Disconnect the ignition coil wire and raise front wheels off floor.
2. Fill the power steering pump reservoir with MERCON(r) Multi-Purpose (ATF) Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX or equivalent.
3. Crank the engine with the starter motor and add MERCON(r) Multi-Purpose (ATF) Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX or equivalent until the level remains constant.

NOTE: Front wheels must be off the floor during lock-to-lock rotation of the steering wheel.

4. While cranking the engine, rotate the steering wheel from lock-to-lock.
5. Check the fluid level and add MERCON(r) Multi-Purpose (ATF) Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX or equivalent if necessary.
6. Connect the ignition coil wire.
7. Start the engine and allow it to run for several minutes.
8. Rotate steering wheel from lock-to-lock.
9. Turn off the engine and check the fluid level. Add MERCON(r) Multi-Purpose (ATF) Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX or equivalent if necessary.
10. If air is still present, purge system of air.
