Cleaning
DESCRIPTIONInspection of the power rack and pinion steering gear is limited to checking for leaks at the fittings including the banjo bolt lugs which retain the power steering auxiliary actuator to the power rack and pinion steering gear. If the leak cannot be stopped by tightening correctly or replacing Teflon seals at various tube connectors, the power rack and pinion steering gear assembly or hose assembly must be replaced. No internal inspection or repair is authorized.
PROCEDURE
The power rack and pinion steering gear is cleaned as follows:
^ Use a clean work bench and tools.
^ Rotate input shaft lock-to-lock several times to purge power steering fluid from power rack and pinion steering gear.
^ Plug inlet and return ports of power rack and pinion steering gear.
^ Clean exterior of power rack and pinion steering gear with solvent. If necessary, drain off excess hydraulic fluid.
^ Handle parts carefully to avoid nicks, burrs, scratches and dirt. Do not use solvent on seals.
