Cruise Control Switch: Service and Repair
REMOVALWARNING
- ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN SERVICING AN AIR BAG VEHICLE AND HANDLING AN AIR BAG.
- WHEN CARRYING A LIVE AIR BAG, MAKE SURE THE BAG AND TRIM COVER ARE POINTED AWAY FROM YOUR BODY. IN THE UNLIKELY EVENT OF AN ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT, THE BAG WILL THEN DEPLOY WITH MINIMAL CHANCE OF INJURY.
- IN ADDITION, WHEN PLACING A LIVE AIR BAG ON A BENCH OR OTHER SURFACE, ALWAYS FACE THE BAG AND TRIM COVER UP, AWAY FROM THE SURFACE. THIS WILL REDUCE THE MOTION OF THE MODULE IF IT IS ACCIDENTALLY DEPLOYED.
- THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT NECESSARY FOR AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT IS POWERED DIRECTLY FROM THE BATTERY. TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY, THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE MUST BE DISCONNECTED PRIOR TO SERVICING OR REPLACING ANY AIR BAG SYSTEM COMPONENTS.
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
WARNING: THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE ANY AIR BAG COMPONENT SERVICE IS PERFORMED. TO DEPLETE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY CABLES AND WAIT ONE MINUTE.
2. Remove LH driver side air bag module bolt.
NOTE: Ensure that wheels are pointing straight ahead.
3. Remove RH driver side air bag module bolt.
4. Remove the air bag module.
1. Lift air bag module from steering wheel.
2. Disconnect (A) air bag (B) horn and (C) speed control switch electrical connectors.
WARNING
- WHEN CARRYING A LIVE AIR BAG, MAKE SURE THE BAG AND TRIM COVER ARE POINTED AWAY FROM YOUR BODY. IN THE UNLIKELY EVENT OF AN ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT, THE BAG WILL THEN DEPLOY WITH MINIMAL CHANCE OF INJURY.
- IN ADDITION, WHEN PLACING A LIVE AIR BAG ON A BENCH OR OTHER SURFACE, ALWAYS FACE THE BAG AND TRIM COVER UP, AWAY FROM THE SURFACE. THIS WILL REDUCE THE MOTION OF THE MODULE IF IT IS ACCIDENTALLY DEPLOYED.
5. Remove the steering wheel bolt.
6. Use (A) Steering Wheel Puller T67L-3600-A to remove the (B) steering wheel.
7. Tape the (A) air bag sliding contact to the (B) steering column housing to prevent misalignment.
8. Remove the four (A) screws and remove the (B) steering wheel trim.
9. Remove the (A) four screws and the (B) speed control switches.
INSTALLATION
1. In stall the (A) speed control switches and the (B) four screws.
2. Install the (A) steering wheel trim and the (B) four screws.
3. Remove tape holding air bag sliding contact in position.
4. Install the steering wheel.
NOTE
- Ensure steering wheel is correctly aligned prior to installing it on the steering column.
- Thread wire connectors through steering wheel trim cover prior to installing the steering wheel.
5. Install the steering wheel bolt.
6. Install the air bag module.
1. Connect the (A) air bag, (B) horn, and (C) speed control switch electrical connectors.
2. Install the air bag module into the steering wheel.
WARNING: WHEN CARRYING A LIVE AIR BAG, MAKE SURE THE BAG AND TRIM COVER ARE POINTED AWAY FROM YOUR BODY. IN THE UNLIKELY EVENT OF AN ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT, THE BAG WILL THEN DEPLOY WITH MINIMAL CHANCE OF INJURY.
7. Install the RH driver side air bag module bolt.
8. Install the LH driver side air bag module bolt.
9. Connect the battery ground cable.
