Coupler HVAC: Description and Operation
The spring lock coupling is a refrigerant line coupling held together by an A/C tube lock coupling spring inside a circular cage.
When the coupling is connected, the flared end of the female fitting slips behind the A/C tube lock coupling spring inside the cage of the male fitting.
The A/C tube lock coupling spring and cage prevent the flared end of the female fitting from pulling out of the cage.
Two O-rings are used to seal the coupling. These O-rings are made of a special material and must be replaced with an O-ring made of the same material. Use only the O-rings listed in the Master Parts catalog for the spring lock coupling.
A plastic indicator ring is used on the spring lock coupling to indicate during assembly that the coupling is connected. The indicator ring may also be used during service operations to indicate connection of the coupling.
An A/C tube lock coupling clip is used with the spring lock couplings to ensure the couplings remain connected. The A/C tube lock coupling clip slides over the cage of the male fitting after the coupling has been connected.
