Daytime Running Lamp: Description and Operation

Models sold in Canada incorporate a Daytime Running Lamp (DRL) system. The daytime running lamps control operates the high-beam headlamps, at a reduced voltage, when the ignition switch is in the ON position, the parking brake is disengaged, and the headlamp switch is OFF. Although the DRL system uses the high-beam filament of the headlamp, it has a voltage reducing resistor to dim the headlamps for daytime operation. This allows the flash-to-pass function during DRL system operation.
