WARNING:COOLING FAN OPERATION HAZARD
To avoid the possibility of personal injury or damage to the vehicle, do not operate the engine with the hood open until the fan has first been examined for possible cracks and separation.
UNEXPECTED COOLING FAN OPERATION
The electric cooling fan will operate whenever the key is ON and the coolant is hot (above 97°c [207 °F]), even though the engine may not be RUNNING. Avoid placing hands, clothing, tools, or other objects in the fan blades at any time. The fan blade will also operate if the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor is disconnected.
CAUTION:
DRIVE BELT INSTALLATION
Incorrect drive belt installation will cause excessive drive belt wear and may cause the drive belt to come off the drive pulleys.
NOTE:
Non-standard replacement drive belts may track differently or improperly. If the existing replacement drive belt tracks improperly, replace it with an original equipment drive belt to avoid performance failure or loss of belt.
1. With the engine running, check the drive belt tracking. If the edge of the drive belt rides beyond the edge of the pulley(s), noise and premature wear may occur. Ensure the drive belt rides correctly on the pulley(s).
2. Visually check the drive belt tensioner. If the drive belt tensioner is not installed correctly with the dowels in the mounting bracket holes, the mounting surface pad will be out of position. This will result in chirp and squeal noises.
3. With the engine running, visually observe the grooves in the pulleys (not the pulley flanges) for excessive wobble. Replace or repair components as required.
4. Check all accessories, mounting brackets and the drive belt tensioner for any interference that would prevent the component from mounting properly. Repair any interference condition and recheck drive belt tracking.
5. Tighten all accessories, mounting brackets, and drive belt tensioner retaining hardware to specification. Recheck drive belt tracking.
