THIS MODIFICATION IS AUTHORIZED ONLY FOR THE LISTED ENGINE. PERFORMING THIS MODIFICATION ON OTHER ENGINE CALIBRATIONS IS UNAUTHORIZED AND COULD CREATE LIABILITY UNDER APPLICABLE FEDERAL OR LOCAL LAWS.
This TSB lists all current calibrations affected. This TSB also includes all previous calibration revision levels not listed.
ISSUE:
A long crank time and/or hard start condition may occur on some vehicles. This may be due to a rich condition during cranking caused by interference from a ground strap attached to the generator bracket.
ACTION:
Reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) (on 1997 vehicles Only) and install a new ground strap for all model year vehicles listed. The new ground strap should reduce the possibility of interference with the PCM. Refer to the following text for details.
Refer to the Instruction Sheet included with the kit for installation procedure which includes reprogramming the PCM on 1997 vehicles only. Refer to the PCM Application Chart for correct PCM usage on 1997 vehicles only.
NOTE:
REGIONAL APPROVAL MUST BE OBTAINED WHEN IT IS NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE PCM.
The Transmission Ground Jumper Kit (F8CZ-19A095-AA) includes the following:
^ Two (2) Ground Straps - (1 automatic, 1 manual)
^ Two (1) Bolts - (1 automatic, 1 manual)
^ One (1) Instruction Sheet
Obtain an Authorized Modification Decal (FPS 8262 - obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
