Fuel Pump: Description and Operation

Fuel Pump Module:

PURPOSE
The Sequential Multiport Fuel Injection (SFI) system uses a high pressure fuel pump to supply fuel under pressure to the fuel injectors.

OPERATION
The valve on the outlet of the fuel pump maintains pressure in the fuel system after the vehicle is shut off, preventing long cranking times during hot-starting conditions.

The internal relief valve provides overpressure protection in the event that the fuel system flow becomes restricted or stopped.
