Removal and Installation

REMOVAL





1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Wait one minute for the driver side air bag module backup power supply to deplete.

WARNING: THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT NECESSARY FOR DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG MODULE DEPLOYMENT IS POWERED DIRECTLY FROM THE BATTERY. TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY, THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE MUST BE DISCONNECTED PRIOR TO SERVICING OR REPLACING ANY DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG MODULES SYSTEM COMPONENTS.

2. Remove the steering wheel.





3. Remove the three screws and remove the upper and lower steering column shroud.





4. Remove the (A) bolt and the (B) instrument panel steering column cover.
5. Remove the combination switch assembly.





6. Remove the two bolts and lower the steering column.





7. Remove the (A) five nuts and remove the (B) slotted steering column tube boot and the (C) inner steering column tube boot.





8. Remove the steering column input shaft coupling to steering gear input shaft and control bolt.





9. Remove the three steering column support bracket nuts and remove the steering column.
10. Inspect the steering column for looseness at all attaching points. If the vehicle has been involved in a collision, follow the supplemental restraint system (SRS) inspections required after an accident.















INSTALLATION
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
