Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Adjustments

1. Remove the square head plug "L" and install Transmission Test Adaptor D87C-77000-A or equivalent and Pressure Gauge T57L-77820-A.
2. Shift the gearshift lever into the P position. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature with all accessories off. Use the New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester to verify that the transaxle fluid temperature is within the range of 60 to 71°C (140 to 160°F).
3. Apply the parking brake and verify that the idle speed is within the range of 670-730 RPM. Adjust the idle speed if necessary.

4. Loosen bolt 1 then loosen bolt 2.

NOTE: Bolt 1 must be loosened before bolt 2.

5. Verify that the throttle plate is fully closed.

6. Tighten bolt 1 to 6.9-9.8 Nm (61-86 inch lbs.).

7. Pull the throttle cable conduit in the direction of arrow A until the line slightly exceeds the specified pressure.

8. Push the throttle cable conduit in the direction of arrow B until the line pressure decreases to the adjustment pressure of 490 kPa (71 psi) with engine at idle.

9. Tighten bolt 2 to 6.9-9.8 Nm (61-86 inch lbs.).
10. Any cable movement must result in an increase in line pressure.
- Verify that all slack is removed from the cable by using your finger to apply slight downward pressure on the cable.
11. Turn off the engine and verify that the throttle valve control actuating cable moves smoothly.

12. Restart the engine and press the accelerator slightly, then run the engine at idle. Verify that line pressure is within the specification. If incorrect, repeat the procedure, beginning with step 4.
13. Turn off the engine.

14. Remove the pressure gauge and install a new square-head plug.
