Shift Interlock: Description and Operation

The shift interlock system prevents the gearshift lever from being moved out of the PARK (P) position by the shift lock actuator, the park range switch, and the ignition/shifter interlock cable that is connected to the ignition switch. The ignition switch must be in the ON position and the brake pedal depressed to move the gearshift lever out of the PARK (P) position. The brake pedal position is detected by the brake off/on (BOO) switch.

The manual override lever will mechanically bypass the electronic portion of the shift interlock system and allow the gearshift lever to be moved out of the PARK (P) position. The manual override lever is part of the gearshift lever.
