Shift Interlock Cable: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Remove the shift console.
2. Remove the gearshift lever knob.
(1) Remove the RH gearshift lever knob screw.
(2) Remove the front gearshift lever knob screw.
3. Remove the transmission control selector dial bezel.
(1) Remove the four screws.
(2) Disconnect the miniature bulb.
CAUTION: Do not loosen the (A) ignition/shifter interlock cable locknut from the factory setting for proper shift-lock operation.
CAUTION: Be careful not to kink the ignition/shifter interlock cable when repositioning it aside.
4. Loosen the (B) ignition/shifter interlock cable locknut.
5. Remove the three steering column shroud screws and the steering column shroud.
6. Remove the nut from the hood latch control handle and cable and position the cable aside.
7. Remove the instrument panel steering column cover screw and the instrument panel steering column cover.
8. Remove the (A) ignition/shifter interlock cable bracket nut and the (B) ignition/shifter interlock cable.
INSTALLATION
To install, reverse the removal procedure noting the following:
- Use Threadlock and Sealer EOAZ-19554-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specifications WSK-M2G315-A5 and ESE-M4G24-A2 when installing the gearshift lever knob screws.
- Adjust the shift cable and bracket as necessary.
- Adjust the transmission control selector dial bezel and then tighten the screws in sequence.
