Flow of Diagnosis
1. Verify the customer concern by operating the shift interlock system.2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage; refer to the following chart.
Mechanical
- Kinked or bound ignition/shifter interlock cable
- Kinked or bound shift cable
- Damaged selector linkage
- Gearshift lever out of adjustment
Electrical
- Blown 10A METER
- Blown 15A METER fuse (Wagons only)
- Blown 10A ROOM fuse
- Blown 15A STOP fuse
- Damaged wiring harness
- Loose or corroded connections
- Damaged ignition switch
- Damaged or disconnected brake on/off (BOO) switch
- Damaged shiftlock actuator
3. Check the gearshift lever and ignition/shifter interlock cable for damage or binding.
4. Check the shift button on the gearshift lever knob for ease of movement through the gears.
5. If the fault is not visually evident, determine the symptom and proceed to Diagnosis by Symptom. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
