Disassembly and Assembly

DISASSEMBLY
1. Install Valve Spring Compressor under camshaft and on top of valve spring retainer.

NOTE: Camshaft must be at base circle before compressing valve spring. Rotate camshaft as required until all rocker arms are removed.





2. Install Valve Spring Spacer between valve spring coils.





3. Compress valve spring far enough to remove rocker arm.

Repeat Steps 1 through 3 until all rocker arms are removed.

4. Remove all valve tappets.





5. Further compress valve spring and remove valve spring retainer keys, valve spring retainer and valve spring.





6. Remove valve stem seal using locking pliers and remove intake valves and exhaust valves.








7. Remove 14 bolts retaining camshaft bearing caps to cylinder head.
8. Tap upward on camshaft bearing caps to gradually lift camshaft bearing caps from cylinder head. Remove camshaft.

ASSEMBLY
1. Apply clean Super Premium SAE 5W30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G to camshaft journals, camshaft lobes, valve tip pads, rocker arm surfaces and adjuster sockets.

2. Install eight valve tappets.
3. Install camshafts.





4. Install camshaft bearing cap and retaining bolts. Tighten camshaft bearing cap retaining bolts in sequence to 8-12 Nm (71-106 inch lbs.).

NOTE: Each camshaft bearing cap is tightened individually.

5. Install valve into cylinder head.

NOTE: A knotted rag or similar item must be positioned under intake valve or exhaust valve to hold it in the UP position.





6. Install new valve stem seals using Valve Stem Seal Replacer.
7. Position valve spring and valve spring retainer onto valve.
8. Install Valve Spring Compressor under camshaft and on top of valve spring retainer.
9. Install Valve Spring Spacer between valve spring coils.
10. Compress valve spring far enough to install valve spring retainer key.
11. Repeat Steps 6 through 10 until all intake valves and exhaust valves are installed.
12. Compress valve spring using Valve Spring Compressor far enough to install rocker arm.

NOTE: Camshaft must be at base circle prior to compressing valve spring. Rotate camshaft as necessary until all valve tappets and rocker arms are installed.
