Fuel Filter: Description and Operation

Fuel is filtered at three locations:
- in-line
- in-tank
- fuel injector screen







In-Line
In-line fuel filter and base:
- provides filtration to protect the injector.
- is located downstream of the electric fuel pump module and is mounted on a bracket on the underbody.
- cannot be cleaned. If clogged, it must be replaced.

NOTE: Replace fuel filter and base as required in accordance with engine being serviced.

In-Tank
A nylon fuel filter element:
- is mounted on the fuel pump inlet inside the fuel tank and protects the fuel pump from contaminants.
- is not available separately.

Fuel Injector Screen
A screen filter is located at the top of each fuel injector nozzle tip and is not serviceable. If the fuel injector screen becomes clogged, the complete fuel injector nozzle tip must be replaced.
