Fuel Pump: Description and Operation
The fuel pump:
- is mounted to the fuel tank and contains the fuel level sensor.
- mounts with inlet in an internal tank reservoir to permit operation on steep grades with low fuel levels.
- provides fuel flow of 80 liters per hour (21.0 gal/hr).
- contains an internal check valve to maintain system pressure after the engine is shut off.
- contains a pressure relief valve to provide overpressure protection in the event a fuel line restriction.
- is protected by a nylon inlet filter.
- is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) which provides power through the Inertia Fuel Shutoff Switch (IFS switch).
- is shut off when the powertrain control module senses engine speed is below 120 rpm.
