Fuel Tank: Description and Operation

The fuel tank holds approximately 71.9L (19 gal) of usable fuel.

The fuel tank filler pipe performs the following functions:
- The restricted opening of the fuel tank filler pipe allows only a non-leaded fuel nozzle to be inserted. The restrictor consists of a narrow opening in the fuel tank filler pipe covered by a spring loaded steel trap door. Leaded fuel nozzles will not fit through the narrow opening.
- Restricted fuel tank filler pipes are manufactured as an assembly, and must be serviced by removal and replacement with a new fuel tank filler pipe and a new fuel filler grommet.
- Fuel tank filler pipes are not to be modified in any way.
- Fill limiting is accomplished through fuel tank vapor valve assembly. The fill limiting system is designed to permit an air space of approximately 12-14 percent when the fuel tank is filled to capacity. This space provides for thermal expansion of fuel and is necessary for proper functioning on the in-tank vapor vent system.
