ISSUE
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1506. This may be due to the driver's foot being on the accelerator pedal lightly for extended periods without the vehicle moving (i.e., have foot on both the brake and lightly on the accelerator pedal simultaneously for an extended period) resulting in overspeed errors.

ACTION
Reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with latest calibration. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Retrieve, then clear DTCs from the PCM continuous memory.

2. If DTC P1506 was present in continuous memory, perform normal diagnostics in accordance with the 1998 Powentrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Service Manual for DTC P1506.

3. If no problem was found after performing Step 2 and no other DTCs were present, reprogram the PCM using the Service Bay Diagnostic System (SBDS) or New Generation star (NGS) Tester.





Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal (FPS 8262 - obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
