ISSUE
A spark knock may occur while accelerating in ambient temperatures greater than 32C (90F) on some vehicles. This may be caused by an inoperative cooling fan and/or too much spark advance commanded by the calibration when operating in high ambient temperatures.
ACTION
Check the operation of the high and low speed cooling fans, and if necessary reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and/or adjust the timing using NGS. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal (FPS 8262 - obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
