Right Hand Windshield - Buzzing/Whistling Noise

ISSUE
A "buzzing" and/or "whistling" noise from the RH side of the windshield area while driving at speeds above 80 km/h (50 mph) may be heard on some vehicles. The noise can be heard when the A/C system is in normal A/C or vent mode and stops when the A/C is off or in maximum A/C mode. This is due to air blowing across the cowl vent screen cover near the fresh air inlet causing the vent screen to vibrate.

ACTION
Apply foam tape between the cowl vent screen and windshield. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove RH side wiper arm.

2. Remove the screws retaining RH side cowl vent screen. Disconnect window washer hose. Remove cowl vent screen.

3. Apply 3 mm thick x 12 mm wide (1/8"x1/2") foam tape to the underside of the cowl vent screen (option: use PVC Tape (Soft Foam) 164-R4901 found in Rotunda Squeak And Rattle Repair Kit 164-R4900. The tape will have to be cut into 12 mm wide strips, then positioned end to end). Position the tape along the entire length of the vent screen approximately 5 mm (0.25") from the top edge of the screen. The foam tape will be between the cowl vent screen and the windshield when the screen is reinstalled.

4. Install the RH side cowl vent screen window washer hose. Position cowl vent screen and install screws. Torque screws to 2.8-5.1 N.m (25-45 lb-in).

5. Install RH side wiper arm.
