Disc Brake System: Testing and Inspection

Check
1. Loosen the wheel nuts.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Remove the wheel.
4. Remove the caliper assembly.
5. Reverse and install the wheel nuts to hold the disc in place.





6. Install a dial indicator gauge and holding fixture to the suspension unit.

NOTE: If the runout is outside specification, check the hub face runout.

Measure the inner and outer faces of the disc.
7. Position the gauge so that it contacts the disc 10 mm (0.4 inches) from the outer edge.
- Slowly rotate the hub/disc assembly. The total dial reading should not exceed 0.15 mm (0.006 inch).

8. Remove the brake disc.





9. Check the hub face runout.
- Slowly rotate the hub and check the runout. If the runout exceeds 0.05 mm (0.002 inch) install a new hub and recheck.

10. If the hub face runout is within specification install a new disc and recheck disc run-out.





11. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
