Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

REMOVAL





1. Remove the heat shield.
- Remove the bolts.






2. Disconnect the TWC from the manifold.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.





4. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor electrical connector.
1 Disconnect the electrical connector.
2 Unclip the wiring.






5. Disconnect the flange connection.





6. Disconnect the hanger insulator.





7. Remove the TWC and flexible pipe assembly.
1 Loosen the support bracket retaining bolts.
2 Remove the clamp bolt.
3 Remove the TWC and flexible pipe assembly.

INSTALLATION





1. Install the three way converter (TWC).
1 Position the TWC and flexible pipe assembly.
2 Install the clamp bolt.
3 Tighten the support bracket retaining bolts.

CAUTION: The hanger insulators are constructed of a special material. Use only the correct specification insulators.

NOTE: Check the hanger insulators for damage or fatigue. Install new insulators if required.





2. Install the hanger insulator.

NOTE: Install a new gasket ring and nuts.





3. Loosely connect the flange joint.
4. Lower the vehicle.

CAUTION: Never use jointing compound forward of the catalytic converter.





5. Tighten the manifold to catalytic convertor nuts.





6. Install the heat shield.
7. Raise and support the vehicle.





8. Tighten the flange nuts.





9. Connect the heated oxygen sensor electrical connector. Clip the wiring in position.
- Clip the wiring in position.

10. Lower the vehicle.
