Disassembly

1. Mount the transaxle in Bench Mounted Holding Fixture.





2. Remove the clutch slave cylinder.
1 Remove high-pressure line.
2 Remove the bleed nipple.
3 Remove the bolts.

NOTE: Undo the clutch slave cylinder (with the release bearing) from the inside of the transaxle for reuse and remove it complete





3. Remove the bolts and the selector mechanism.

NOTE: Make sure the selector mechanism is in neutral.





4. Remove the oil seals with Impact Slide Hammer and Converter Seal Remover.





5. Remove the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).
1 Remove the retaining pin.
2 Remove the VSS.





6. Remove the transaxle housing bolts.

NOTE: Do not remove the locating dowels.





7. Separate the transaxle housing sections.
1 Use a block underneath the lever to avoid damaging the housing.
2 Separate the transaxle housing sections using two levers on opposite sides.

CAUTION: Do not damage the housing.





8. Remove the differential assembly and magnet.





9. Remove the selector rods and the first/second gear selector fork.





10. Remove the gear selector forks.
1 Position the fifth/reverse gear selector fork to the side.
2 Rotate the third/fourth gear selector fork and remove it, then remove the fifth/reverse gear selector fork.





11. Release the reverse gear idler shaft mounting.
1 Remove the bolts.
2 Swing the input shaft and output shaft to the side (the reverse gear idler shaft mounting should lift up).
3 Remove the bracket.

NOTE: The reverse gear idler shaft remains in the transaxle.





12. Remove the reverse idler gear.
1 Position the input and output shafts to the side.
2 Remove the reverse idler gear.





13. Remove the input and output shaft.





14. Remove the bearing races of the differential, and the input and output shafts using Puller, Stator, and Driven Sprocket Remover.

NOTE: Locate Stator and Driven Sprocket Remover in the housing recesses.





15. Remove the reverse idler shaft mounting plate.





16. Remove the reverse gear idler shaft.
