Installation
Special Tool(s)
1. Position the transaxle to the engine using Hi-Lift Transmission Jack.
2. Install the lower rear bellhousing bolts.
3. Install the lower front bellhousing bolts.
4. Disconnect the holding strap and remove Hi-Lift Transmission Jack.
5. Install the subframe.
1. Install Sub Frame Alignment Pins.
2. Align the subframe with the locating holes in the body.
3. Install the subframe bolts working diagonally.
6. Remove the mechanic's wire securing the steering gear.
7. Install the RH steering gear to subframe bolts.
8. Install the LH steering gear to subframe bolt.
9. Install the power steering line bracket bolt.
10. Install the power steering hose bracket nut.
11. Install the power steering hose bracket bolt.
12. Connect the VSS electrical connector.
13. Attach the shifter cables and bracket.
1. Position the shifter cable bracket.
2. Install the nuts.
3. Attach the shifter cables.
14. Install the three - way catalytic converter.
15. Install the lower starter motor bolts.
1. Position the starter motor.
2. Install the lower starter motor bolt.
16. NOTE: LH side shown, RH similar.
Install the radiator support brackets.
1. Position the radiator support brackets.
2. Install the bolts.
17. Install the radiator splash shield.
1. Position the radiator splash shield.
2. Install the bolts.
3. Install the push pins.
Vehicles without air conditioning
18. If equipped, install the suction accumulator bolts to the subframe.
19. Install the rear roll restrictor.
1. Install the bolts.
2. Install the through bolt hand tight.
20. Install the special tool.
1. Position the special tool.
2. Install the bolts.
3. Install the through bolt hand tight.
21. Lower the vehicle.
22. Loosen the RH engine support insulator.
1. Loosen the nuts.
2. Loosen the bolts two turns.
23. Install the transaxle support insulator studs.
24. NOTE: Use new self - locking nuts.
Install the LH transaxle support insulator.
1. Position the LH transaxle support insulator.
2. Install the bolts.
3. Install the nuts.
25. Tighten the RH engine support insulator bolts and nuts.
1. Tighten the nuts.
2. Tighten the bolts.
26. Raise and support the vehicle.
27. NOTE: Verify that the front roll restrictor is centered in the bracket and in perfect front to rear alignment before tightening the through bolt. If necessary, loosen the roll restrictor to subframe mounting bolts and reposition the roll restrictor.
Tighten the rear roll restrictor through bolt.
28. Remove the special tool.
1. Remove the through bolt.
2. Remove the bolts.
3. Remove the special tool.
29. NOTE: Verify that the front roll restrictor is centered in the transaxle bracket and in perfect front to rear alignment before tightening the through bolt.
Install the front roll restrictor.
1. Position the front roll restrictor.
2. Install the nuts.
3. Install the through bolt.
30. Install a new snap-ring.
31. CAUTION: To avoid damage joints and boots, do not bend the inner halfshaft joint by more than 18 degrees, the outer one by not more than 45 degrees.
NOTE: Do not damage the oil seal. Check that the snap - ring engages correctly.
Install the left - hand halfshaft.
32. CAUTION: To avoid to damage joints and boots, do not bend the inner halfshaft joint by more than 18 degrees, the outer one by not more than 45 degrees.
NOTE: Do not damage the oil seal.
Install the right - hand halfshaft.
33. CAUTION: Do not damage boot and wheel speed sensor
Install the lower arm ball joints to the wheel knuckle and the stabilizer rod to the suspension strut (right-hand side shown).
- Connect the wiring harness bracket to the suspension strut.
34. Install the splash shields (right - hand side shown).
35. Install the front wheels.
36. NOTE: The fill level is 0-5 mm below the lower edge of the filler hole.
Check the transmission fluid level and fill up Transmission Fluid if necessary.
37. Lower the vehicle.
38. Remove the special tools.
39. Install the upper bellhousing and upper starter motor bolts.
1. Install the upper bellhousing bolts.
2. Position the ground cable.
3. Install the upper starter motor bolts.
40. Attach the clutch slave cylinder hydraulic line to the bracket and install the push pin.
1. Install the push pin.
2. Attach the clutch slave cylinder hydraulic line to the bracket.
41. Connect the clutch slave cylinder hydraulic line and install the clip.
42. Connect the reversing lamp switch electrical connector.
43. Connect the ground cable to the bellhousing.
44. Remove the radiator supports.
45. Install the air cleaner outlet tube.
1. Position the air cleaner outlet tube.
2. Install the clamp.
46. Connect the intake air temperature sensor electrical connector.
47. Tighten the front wheels (right - hand side shown).
1. Wheel nut
2. Driveshaft stub nut
48. NOTE: Use an Allen wrench to stop the piston rod from turning.
Tighten the suspension strut locknuts (right -hand side shown).
49. Tighten the suspension strut locknuts with a torque wrench (right - hand side shown).
50. Install the Air Cleaner (A/C).
51. Install the battery.
52. NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
53. Bleed the clutch slave cylinder hydraulic system.
