Tie Rod: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Remove the steering gear.





2. Remove the outer tie rod end and lock nut.
1 Remove the tie rod end.
2 Remove the tie rod end lock nut.

NOTE: Make a note of the number of turns required to remove the tie rod end.





3. Remove the boot retaining clamps.





4. Remove the boot.
1 Disconnect the steering gear breather pipe.
2 Slide the boot off the tie rod.

Tie Rod:





5. Remove the tie rod.

CAUTION: Clamp the steering rack to avoid extensive torque forces when removing the tie rod.

INSTALLATION

Tie Rod:








1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

NOTE: Ensure the tie rod end is screwed on by the same number of turns that was used to remove it. Install the boot using new retaining clamps.
